Auditions
Women of Note auditions will be held on a one-to-one basis at a time and location convenient for both the singer and director. Auditions take approximately 5 minutes per person. All singers must be able to carry a tune, be able to sing harmony as well as melody, and commit to two hours of practice per week outside of rehearsal. To demonstrate singing skills, you will be asked to sing a short, easy tune (My Country 'Tis of Thee, Happy Birthday, or one of your choosing), sight-read several quick passages, demonstrate tonal memory, and be willing to explore your vocal range. To make your audition appointment, please phone Elizabeth at (360) 432-9940 or email womenofnotewa@gmail.com.
Background
Knowing you may currently sing in another choir, we specifically ask you not to quit one organization to join another. We are pleased if you add this women's choir to your schedule.
Rehearsal Schedule and Guidelines
Rehearsals are scheduled as follows:
Attendance
To help ensure the best performances possible, all members are expected to attend all rehearsals, arrive promptly, and stay the entire time. Rehearsals are not only opportunities to become familiar with notes and timing, but an opportunity to learn proper singing techniques and to develop fully as an ensemble. Thus, we join most auditioned choirs with an attendance policy. Three absences from rehearsals are the maximum allowed during each concert period. A member exceeding this limit will not be permitted to sing in the concert. If a member is not able to attend a rehearsal, she is expected to contact the director. Only the Director, on a case-by-case basis can make exceptions to this policy.
Music and Member Contributions to Concert Costs
To offset the cost of music and other concert expenses, members are asked to make a non-refundable payment of $100 each concert season (twice a year). Members are encouraged to make their payment the first month of the new season rehearsals, once in January and once in September (or pay $200 all at once!).
Women of Note will not exclude anyone from singing because of inability to make the payment. In the event of serious hardship, and at the specific request of the member, the payment amount may be reduced or waived on an as-needed basis. The Director has the sole discretion to adjust the amount of the donation or waive it altogether.
Rehearsal Schedule and Guidelines
Rehearsals are scheduled as follows:
- Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at St. David of Wales in Shelton, WA.
- One or more sectional rehearsals may be held during the concert season.
- Two additional full choir rehearsals may be added as concert dates approach. One of these two rehearsals will serve as a dress/technical rehearsal to arrange details of staging, sound, and lighting. Usually, concert dress is not worn at dress rehearsals. We have not needed extra rehearsals to date, but collaborations usually require time with the other choir prior to performances, so it is likely we will have up to two additional rehearsals.
